Heritage

A rich history worth preserving

It is widely held that there has been a Christian place of worship on the site of St Peter upon Cornhill since 179AD when Lucius, the first Christian King of Britain, founded it as the first church in London and the chief church of his kingdom.

The current structure is of Christopher Wren design, replacing the structure destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 which started on Pudding Lane just a few hundred yards away. Surviving the Blitz unscathed, it is one of only thirteen unspoilt Wren churches.

The St Peter's Appeal hopes to bring the building back to life as well as make it fit-for-purpose for the increasing and diverse use of the space. We want to save St Peter's for the next generation to use and enjoy. We hope you may be able to partner with us.
